George Loli
Biography and Artist Statement:
George Loli started painting and drawing at the early age of thirteen years old. By the time he was sixteen he was making religious paintings and frescoes in churches and cathedrals in Syria. Loli moved to Florence, Italy where he began his studies in architecture, earning a Dottore in Architecture from the university of Florence Italy at the same time attending drawing classes at the Accademia Di belle arte. After his studies in Italy were complete, Loli moved to New York City, where he worked for a year as an architectural designer before settling in Lafayette, Louisiana, where he taught at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette for 36 years in the Department of Architecture and Design, retiring in the summer of 2011.
George Loli continued his passion and interest in painting and drawing throughout his career, receiving national and international recognition in solo and group shows in Paris, France, Florence, Italy, and throughout Texas and Louisiana. Loli’s works, as well as that of his students have been represented in numerous publications and reviews in architecture and design, painting media and design books.
“Sketching, drawing and painting are the great passions of my life. When I draw, sketch or paint, my goal is not necessarily to produce beautiful artworks, but, moreover, to try to capture the quality and the spirit of a particular space. I search for balance, mood and light to help communicate the essence of that place and its architecture – changing palate, procedure and/or medium in order to do so.”
“Turning a corner in an unfamiliar environment, a village, city or town and becoming one with the space is what energizes me. Travelling and discovery become essential to the passion I feel when drawing or painting. Capturing the essence of a new environment, helping to satisfy the yearning for expressing and capturing that new experience, is essential to my expressions in art.”

Artist Statement & Biography
"My background is in the Classics, where I studied philosophy, literature and art. Personally, there is an immediate and unparalleled satisfaction that one derives from participating in and sharing with the educational history of others. As a result, I have spent the past decade teaching English as a Second Language at the major Universities in New York City. To me, Teaching is a kinetic art in itself. But now I am in a new stage in life. I have been heavily focused on developing and redefining my art as the medium to express who I am and how I see life. It is important, maybe even necessary, for me to be heard. I have a message and I want to share. The core of the art I have created is a result of careful calculation and sincere passion. I can confidently say that I believe in my style, which is germane to the zeitgeist and has a focus due to my strong multidisciplinary background" - Joe Loli
